Eighth Grade Student at Saint Agnes Parish School in West Chester Receives School’s Journalism Award

Friday, June 27th

An eighth grade student at Saint Agnes Parish School in West Chester has been selected as his school’s annual “Tim Russert Award for Excellence in Journalism” recipient. Will Dolan was chosen in a blind selection process by a professional journalist from London for his piece, “St. Agnes Hits Record Number of Snow Days.” The piece was published earlier this year in the school newspaper, “The St. Agnes Scoop.”

The award, which was created by St. Agnes’ newspaper advisor to celebrate the connection between journalism and Catholic principles of truth and justice, is named for Tim Russert, the NBC News Washington bureau chief and Meet the Press moderator who died unexpectedly in June 2008.

Each year, in addition to recognizing each student in the lower grades for his or her best article, the best articles of the seventh and eighth graders, are submitted to an outside judge in the journalism world. Past judges have included editors of The Villanovan, a journalism professor from Rowan University, an editor from The Inquirer, etc.
