Long Term Substitute Teacher of the Visually Impaired

 

We are seeking a certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired to teach in a resource room

for academic students who are blind and visually impaired. Consider being a part of an amazing, energetic, and dedicated team of vision professionals.

 

Qualifications

  1. A bachelor or master’s degree in special education
  2. Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired.
  3. Knowledge of the EUB Literary Braille Code and the Nemeth Code
  4. Familiarity with speech synthesizer software for computer use, knowledge of the operation of the Apex Braille Note Taker Plus and familiarity with Braille embossers.
  5. Familiarity with low vision devices such as the telescope, CCTV and hand held video magnifiers.
  6. Ability to maintain appropriate data collection in order to monitor student progress toward IEP goals.
  7. Ability to teach the general education curriculum to students with modification for vision loss.
  8. Knowledge of educational approaches for students with CVI.
  9. Orientation and Mobility certification preferred but not necessary.
  10. Willingness to collaborate with general education teachers

 

Responsibilities Include

  1. Ability to determine functional and academic implications of eye reports and implement environmental and academic adaptations accordingly.
  2. Professional communication with low vision specialists, ophthalmologists, and optometrists.
  3. Conduct functional visual assessments and write functional vision reports.
  4. Conduct learning media assessments and writing learning media reports.
  5. Conduct appropriate educational assessments to monitor academic progress.
  6. Develop and keep data for IEP goals to address educational needs identified through assessment.
  7. Develop lesson plans and unit plans according to the curriculum established by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
  8. Ability to collaborate with the general education classroom teachers in order to facilitate inclusion.

PA required clearances and Safe Environment Certification and official transcripts will be required before employment can begin.
